How much is this going to cost you? That actually scores as the number one question that folks have. They could be looking at 25 years to life in prison, yet their first question is, “How much is this going to cost me?” Where if they were going in because they had a brain tumor, they wouldn’t say, “Hey, doc. I want the best, but how much is this going to cost me?” I don’t understand the fundamental difference in the way a client looks at something physically with them (e.g. a heart attack, cancer, or something like that) and being willing to spend any amount of money to solve the problem, as opposed to a sex crime where you can spend 25 years to multiple life sentences in prison.
But what’s this going to cost you? You got bond that you are going to have to pay, and bond is expensive in these cases. I talk about that in another video. Of course, you will have attorney fees and the cost associated with maybe an expert that you might need. The other costs aren’t necessarily money you have to lay out, but some are. Let’s think about job loss; let’s think about the financial drain that is going to have on you for lost opportunities for future employment. Maybe DHS is involved, and they say, “Hey, dad. You have to get out of the house.” So you are going to have to get another place to live — an apartment — maybe long-term. Maybe you guys shared a car. Well, you need two cars now. There may be separate maintenance that you need to pay for the child (i.e. child support). Any number of things can blow the costs up exponentially. The long and the short of it is, until you come down and we sit down and go through all of the intimate details of your life — because the answer to that question is unique to each client — all I can tell you is it is going to be expensive.
